Whether it is advice, questions or complaints that your community has about service delivery, let the Eastern cape Provincial Legislature know! Become involved in the legislative process. Speak up! The Legislature receives and considers oral or written petitions from the public. The political function of handling petitions rests with the Speaker’s Office, while the Petitions Unit is responsible for the administrative function. The Legislature has a Public Participation, Petitions and Education Committee; Members of the Provincial Legislature, representing all the political parties represented in the Legislature, serve in this committee. The responsibility of this committee is to oversee public participation initiatives and consider petitions referred to it by the Speaker. Petitions can be submitted in written form to the Legislature in English, isiXhosa, Afrikaans and Sesotho. If you need help in writing your petition, please contact the Petitions Unit who will assist you. You can petition the Legislature about a service delivery issue that you want to be addressed. A petition can be a complaint or a request by a member of the public. However the sub-judicate rule needs to be adhered to regarding matters which are before the court.
Officials from the Petitions Unit will gladly assist a member of the public with information on how to draft a petition. Please contact the Petitions Unit:
